Founder David Stein opens his own plumbing contracting business in Waterbury, CT. When local plumbers start to purchase the supplies he stores in his garage, he recognizes the need to pivot to distribution.
Torrco is founded as Brass City Plumbing Supply, with headquarters on South Main Street in Waterbury (where Home Depot is currently located). The company opens a branch in Torrington, where it relocates after the Waterbury location is flooded.
Following the move, Brass City Plumbing Supply changes its name to Torrington Supply Company.
The company moves back to Waterbury, this time to its current headquarters location between Maple and Elm Street. David’s sons join the family business, and it truly begins to flourish.
Morris Stein’s son-in-law, Joel Becker, joins the company and becomes CEO, a position he still holds today.
At the turn of the millennium, a fourth generation enters the family business, which has expanded to eight branches throughout Connecticut. In 2009, they purchase Litco Supply, adding six branches and three retail showrooms in northern Connecticut and western Massachusetts.
The company consolidates its businesses—Torrington Supply Company, Litco Supply, and Luxury Bath Center—under a single name. Torrco grows to include two distribution centers, eleven trade branch locations, and six Design Center showrooms.
